The Funeral Process
When a loved one passes, there are immediate steps which needs to be taken care of.
This guide starts when our loved one is medically deceased, when their heart stops and the medical practitioner confirms the passing
When that happens, that is when the Funeral Journey map below starts.
The Funeral Journey map is a step by step guide to the steps which needs to be taken
The steps, other than the Funeral rites which are subject to different religions, is religion agnostic. The government processes, legal processes and financial processes remains the same no matter what religion you are.

Phase 1
First 4 hours
This is the most difficult period. The shock of losing a loved one is still fresh in the mind. The steps here will help guide the next of kin in what needs to be done.

Phase 2
Next 20 hours
The next of kin will need to get plenty of rest before the Wake. The funeral parlour will handle the bulk of the work so that the family can grieve.

Phase 3
2 – 5 Days After
The next step is the Wake. During the Wake, either the next of kin or the Funeral Parlour can get the Death Certificate issued. The next of kin must also decide on the final resting place.

Phase 4
Before and on 100 Days
Prayers based on the religious preferences of the deceased are carried out. The government, financial and legal processes will need to be started to manage the assets, debts and belonging of the deceased.

Phase 5
After 100 Days
The legal process takes time, and it is important to start it as soon as possible. If the deceased has a will prepared, the process is significantly shorter. Otherwise, it may take around 6 months.

My Story
My wife passed away suddenly after suffering from a stroke. We did not prepare for this moment as we were both young and healthy.
When it happened, I was so lost, so afraid, so alone. In the moment when I was so vulnerable, I had to make arrangements for my beloved’s funeral.
It was such a painful experience. I hope I can help others in their hour of need, so that they do not need to go through as much pain as I did.
